Welcome to Change

Thanks for visiting our site.  We have been working tirelessly on ChangeFund for the past year.  What are we building?  In summary, a people powered movement.

We are building a way to harness the finance industry to be a funding source for charities.  A way to give consumers back the margins for their loans and investments.  A channel to help reduce personal debt.  But the semantics of that deserve more explanation.

What is ChangeFund?

ChangeFund is a social enterprise starting in finance.  We believe that companies should be doing more to help society and people in need.  That’s why we give a large portion of revenue from our awesome services to helping people in need.

How do we propose to make money?  Well I’m glad you asked.

We are setting up a Peer-to-Peer Lending service

At the time of writing, we are building our website application to facilitate safe and secure lending and investing.  It aligns with our mission – be the change (you can read more about our mission) – which is to be the change we want to see in the world.  We want to see the finance industry transform from a souless profit engine to one that cares about its customers.  One that provides ethical services.  One that puts its money back into the community.  That’s incredibly important to us.

Financial Technology

Financial Technology is a hot topic at present.  Lenders like Harmoney, Squirrel Money and Lending Club are leading the way – providing everyday consumers a marketplace to lend and borrow directly from each other.  By doing this, these companies provide lower interest on loans and higher returns on investments – all by removing the banks – the incumbent middle man.

This model allows consumers to remove the middle man – who has enjoyed fat margins for decades, if not centuries – and take back the margins from the banks on lending and investing.

It’s called Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending

For those of you that don’t know what Peer-to-Peer (P2P for short) Lending is, here’s a wikipedia definition:

Peer-to-peer lending, sometimes abbreviated P2P lending, is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders directly with borrowers.

Our background in finance

Our directors – Chantal & myself – both have financial experience working for some of the biggest names in finance.  We’ve worked for American Express, ANZ, Citibank, Westpac and many more institutions over the past two decades.  One thing we both felt was that the finance industry does little to protect its customers.  Little to truly give back.  Little to do anything more than profiteer.  That’s not what life’s about.

Let’s build our community, together

We want your help to choose charities to support when we launch.  Our aim is to keep this process democratic; giving our customers the choice to where we donate the proceeds from their ChangeFund transaction.  What company does that these days?

Shortly, we will be posting a forum on our site to allow our friends, family and supporters – our ChangeFunders – to suggest and start voting for charities we should support.  We need your help to find the best charities to get behind.
